# 1 Rules Analysis
## 1.1 Common Rules
### 1.1.1 Scale
- Turn = 1-2 hours of real time
- Hex = 400-800 meters
### 1.1.2 Movement
- Rivers only crossable at bridges
- Streams cost +2 MP
- Uphill costs +1 MP
- Roads 1/2 MP
- Trails 1 MP, but ignore other terrain
- Move through friendly allowed
- No stacking
### 1.1.3 ZOCs
- Very sticky. Exit only through retreat or elimination.
- ZoC does not block retreat.
![[WagramTEC.png]]
- Forests offer no defensive bonus
- Town hexes double defender strength
- Slope, stream, and bridge hex sides double defender strength
> Comment: This doubling makes the Russbach heights a formidable obstacle
### 1.1.4 Combat
- Adjacent units must fight.
- Odds always round down.
![[WagramCRT.png]]
> Comment: The CRT does not penalize low odds attacks. AE only first appears at the 1-2 ratio. This makes diversionary attacks very feasible.
> Comment: High odds attacks feature many Ex results. Surrounding units and eliminating them by a Dr is the safest way to eliminate enemy units. 3-1 are the safest odds for an attack aiming to produce a Dr.
### 1.1.5 Artillery
- Range 2 hexes
- Can attack with or without infantry/cavalry
- Forest and town hexes may block LOS. Drawn from center of artillery hex to center rof target hex.
### 1.1.6 Night Turns
- No entering enemy ZoC.
- No leaving enemy ZoC.

- Austrians lose AAC after 45 strength points loss
### 1.2.5 Victory Conditions

- French player must score >= 75 VPs or auto loss
- During Play
- Both: 1 VP for each strength point eliminated
- Austrian: 1 VP per Austrian strength point which exits west (top) map edge

# 2 Scenario Analysis (IPOE)
## 2.1 Situation
### 2.1.1 Higher Intent
![[WagramVPs.png]]
### 2.1.2 Terrain
![[WagramTerrain.png]]
- Major Features
- **Marschfeld**: Wide plain between the Danube River and Russbach Stream. Developed road network supports movement primarily towards the Russbach Stream. Sparse groupings of town hexes will sometimes provide significant cover to a defender.
- **Russbach Stream**: Major water obstacle. Will turn cavalry and artillery movement. Will disrupt infantry movement. Stream provides cover advantage to defender. Forest hexes provide concealment against artillery.
- **Russbach Heights**: Major linear obstacle. Defending up slope provides significant advantages for defender.
- **Russbach Plains**: Almost featureless terrain that will favor an attack between the Russbach Stream and Russbach Heights.
- **Gerasdorf Hills**: A non-linear line of hills. Significant for the Austrian player to control because they enable the inferior Austrian northern force to operate on the French flank. Key for the French to control because they want to isolate and defeat portions of the Austrian northern force.
- Key Terrain
- **Anderklaa Corridor**: This is the town of Anderklaa and the terrain separating the Russbach Strea m and the Gerasdorf Hills. Key for the Austrian player to control because it will allow him to reinforce the southern force with elements of the northern force. Key for the French player to control so he can prevent that reinforcement and extend the line of battle along the Russbach Stream and Russbach slope.
- **Russbach Slope**: This is the linear slope of the hill itself. A significant linear obstacle and the last . French control of this will allow them to occupy the Russbach Heights. Austrian control allows them to more readily repulse French attacks on the objective.
- **Kagran Crossroads**: The towns and two roads connecting the western (top) portion of the map with Aspern-Essling-Gross Enzedorf. Key for the French player to control to prevent austrian cavalry raids on the VP towns. Key for the Austrian player to control because they offer rapid routes to those VP towns.
### 2.1.3 COFM
![[WagramCOFM.png|640]]
- This does include the 4x Austrian reserve units
- This does not include the French artillery units garrisoning Lobau Island
> Comment: The French don't possess a distinct advantage in combat power.
### 2.1.4 Enemy and Friendly Disposition
